NYC Mickey Mantle's

After hours of research on menupages, we've decided that Mickey Mantle's may be our best choice for a special dinner. We're foodies and baseball fans and the "appeteasers" look great. Is it a good choice?

I just looked through the menupages on Mickey Mantle's, and I can't grasp why a self-described "foodie" would want to go there. It's uninspired bar food. It would be interesting for the baseball paraphenalia, but I can't imagine why you'd go here for a special dinner.

No, Mickey Mantle's would not be my choice for a "special dinner." There would be hundreds of other NYC restaurants that I would consider first!

Foodies at Mickey Mantle's? Maybe there is a different definition of foodie than the one I'm familiar with -- one who appreciates and seeks only great and exciting food experiences.

No, no, no. For a REALLY special occassion the only place is the Applebee's in Times Square. As we say at work is APPLEFREAKINLICIOUS!!

Seriously, all those food choices from ALL over the globe. Where but a Vegas buffett do you get those options?

I really like the "Mi Quesadilla es su Quesadilla."

(When WILL they put in that car side.!)

NOT the place for any sort of special meal. The food is mediocre at best. And agree that the menu (like every sports bar in the world) makes it immediately apparent this is a place mostly for fans/atmosphere - and NOT foodies.

If you really want a special meal give us a budget, atmosphere (traditional, romantic, casuale, tourist) and cuisines you like/dislike - and people can make good recos from among the dozens of great - and hundreds of good restaurants in New York.

You know Woody, I think when you go you should ask the Mick's friends to autograph the letter mentioned in this link:

lol Ryan.

Mickey Mantle's is a great place to walk around in and see the baseball stuff. We went for lunch once and it is definitely just ok bar food you could get anywhere else.

I think it's a grand choice. Be sure to order the scooter pie sundae.

Thanks for all the responses. That Mickey was quite a joker. I like that.
