NYC: lunch today wed may 7 uws or grand central
I'm trying to meet up for a late lunch with a friend who lives in Connecticut. She's either driving and we are meeting on the uws or taking the train and we are meeting near grand central. Suggestions for lunch in both places please! Neither if us have time to do research and I want to avoid le pain quotidian which she loves and where I can't eat anything. Restaurant must be able to accommodate gluten and dairy free eater (me) but does not have to be a special restaurant. Suggestions please.
Many thanks for the help.

Oyster Bar at Grand Central if you both like shellfish. Alternatively, there are both Indian and Thai places in the food court (Manhattan Chili Company, too). Or if you want to sit down, you could have a salad at Junior's.
But Le Pain Quotidien has excellent salads. I can't believe there's nothing there you can eat.
I'm afraid I can't help you with the Upper West Side.

Thanks for the suggestions but hoping we will not actually eat in the food court at grand central but at a real restaurant and no oysters
And thanks for making me look up le pains menu. They have gluten free bread now but still a very limited menu of things I can eat.

There's a neighborhood restaurant in Murray Hill called Bistango that is very good. The owner's daughter has celiac syndrome, so the menu is very focused on gluten-free choices, including both pastas and bread. And the dessert menu is coded for gluten-free choices. It's on the corner of 29th/3rd Avenue. So not quite so close to Grand Central. That's my only other recommendation.

The Oyster Bar at Grand Central is not inside a food court. It is a "real restaurant," and a must-see for architecture buffs, as the ceiling represents one of the finest existing works by the workshop of Spanish Tile Master Rafael Guastavino. The food is good, too.

If you don't happen to know of any restaurants that can accomodate gluten and dairy free -- then yes, I guess you'd have to research a bit if you wanted to offer suggestions. But I'm thinking the OP just might suspect there are some people who DO already know some suggestions. Obviously the OP was right as there are several suggestions coming forth, that I suspected took NO research by those answering.
Geez. If you don't have an answer, big deal, but why suggest that no one could have any simple suggestions without doing major research? Get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, did we?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am aware that the oyster bar is a real restaurant and certainly a good suggestion, the others in grand central were in the food court. Kefi and nice matin were exactly what I was looking for but we ended up at Sarabeths.
