Right in Times Square you have the Renaissance, Crowne Plaza, Doubletree Suites, W Times Square and the newest, the Hyatt Times Square . There are probably 15 more nice ones within a few blocks including the Hilton TS, the Intervontinental TS and the Westin TS. The Muse and the Pearl are smaller.

I will add to mclaurie's list the Edison Hotel. Nice art deco style, recently remodeled rooms, and fantastic live music intimate (no cover) bar called Rum House in the lobby, which is great to come back to after a show.

There are tons of hotels in that area to choose from, you don't seem to have any criteria that you mentioned, so how to suggest. I like the Muse and the Novotel, a bit farther north but not that far, it's probably considered TS area. In fact, I like that it's in a little less hectic location yet still convenient for theater. The Novotel has particularly large rooms. I guess the Muse did too, now that I think of it, and it's more boutiquey.

Thanks for suggestions. What are your thoughts on the Sheraton, Staybridge, and CitizenM? All in TS area. Price for hotel would probably be high $200s to mid $300s for a night if I'm looking at rates correctly. Need two separate rooms with king bed or 2nd choice a queen. We are coming to see a few shows, eat, and site see. Any must sees? Thanks for any help.

I have stayed at both Sheratons btwn Times Square and Central park. Typically I like Sheratons (Starwood is a preferred hotel brand for me.) However, not these Sheratons. Avoid the Sheraton Manhattan at all costs, it is not owned or operated by Starwood any more. And the Sheraton New York is also a huge conference hotel, with thin walls. If you want a Starwood hotel, look at the Westin Times Square, which is actually on corner of 8th Ave.
There is another thread with discussion about the Staybridge that is active on here right now.

Annette, rates fluctaute wildly by date so wthout exact dates I have no idea which will fit your budget. The Sheraton Times Square is north of TS and recently renovated but a BOG convention otel and not what I'd pick. Staybridge offers a lot of freebies including breakfast and weeknight snacks, but it,s location behind Port Authority while convenient, is not what I'd pick and rooms are relatively small. Rooms at CitizenM are TINY.

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually booked The Knickerbocker. July 18-23 and we can't wait! We went back and forth over which hotel that when a deal came up we hit the button. Hopefully it'll all be great. Now planning the details so am reading as many forums as I can. Lots of good tips and ideas on Fodors.
