I am planning a trip to New York city in June for 4 of us which includes our 2 boys ages 6 &4.
I want to stay somewhere closer to Central park, so I looked at Omni Berkshire.
When I book for a week around 4th of July the rate is 289$ per night. However for a week
in mid-June the rate for the same room jumps to 400$ a night..Is there a reason for the rate drop
around 4th July weekend ?
Regards.

Boston, my 2 hour food shopping spree to satiate my man's needs

Fewer business travelers around the holiday.
Agree - that rate is very low since thre's little business done that week.
But - you're really not that near Central Park - you're in a primarily business and shopping area.
With kids I would tend to stay on the upper west side. That way you're near not only Cenral Park (just a block or 2) but also the Museumm of Natural History and a bunch of family friendly restaurants. (Those are much rarer in midtown where you're planning to stay.)
