The title says it all. Any recommendations?

Well, the Waldorf itself has a pretty good brunch, if pricey.

Ze Cafe is very popular with residents of the area and beyond. The restaurant is quite lovely, as the owner is a renowned local florist. They get quite busy on weekends. The other area possibility would be Jubilee, a few steps away from Ze Cafe. Long-time neighborhood standby. No earth shattering cuisine but quite good. Both of these are a few blocks east of the hotel.

On a MUCH higher culinary plane, you might check out Marea, an Italian seafood specialist about a 10-15-minute walk northwest of the hotel.

Just wanted to add that if you don't mind something casual, a walk up 2nd Ave in the high Forties and low Fifties will uncover any number of small restaurants offering brunch. For example:

http://www.matissenyc.com

http://www.lamediterraneeny.com

http://lamangeoire.com

and many others, ranging from chains, lowly "Irish pubs" and diners up to the above mentioned ze cafe (actually, a couple of blocks over), probably the nicest.

Or amble the other direction down 2d to one of my favorite places for casual dining, Cibo, at 2d and 41st. www.cibonyc.com

For casual, the Smith

bateaux Ivre

For something nicer, walk up to Park Avenue Fall on 63. St.

or David Burke's Townhouse on 61 st. Reservations required.

Sorry, but The Smith is not a place I would recommend for anyone looking for very good food and the very last place I might send a visitor to NYC with limited time. It is miles below Ze Cafe, and light years below Marea, mentioned above. Hopefully Vincenzo will give more info on exactly what kind of place he is looking for..

I'm not sure I can explain what "kind" of place I'm looking for, other than something in the locale I mentioned. But to narrow it down by price: Something under $50/person would be good (which rules out the Waldorf @ $100/person).

Just goes to show horses for courses. To me Ze Cafe is overpriced and underwhelming. I wouldn't walk to 1 st ave from the Waldorf to eat there.

One thing to consider is whether you would prefer a place that will take reservations. Many brunch spots do not, and they can have long waits.

Bryant Park Grill might be a great choice for you, and they do take reservations. It's about a 15 in walk and in a scenic location.

Sarabeth's is a popular choice for brunch. The Central Park South location is about a 20 minute walk from your hotel, but then you're right on Central Park. I believe they do not take reservations during their brunch hours though, and long waits are common.
