Is she a sohphisticated 16 or not? Where do you/she live? Does she come to NYC regularly? Are you planning on going to a matinee or evening performance (ie are you looking for lunch or dinner)? Budget?

budget is medium, Brooke is not sophisticated, but very intelligent, coming in from eastern pa, she thinks she wants to see wicked. Brooke is an amazing dancer. third trip to city. She mainly wants to see a broadway show, because she was in her high school musical this year and fell in love with theater. we could do a show and lunch, then see a few sights. Please make suggestions and thank you.

The Joyce Theater http://www.joyce.org/ has Savion Glover http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/23/ar...html?ref=dance
Lincoln Center does outdoor swing http://new.lincolncenter.org/live/index.php/swing-2010
Swing 46 is a restaurant & dance place on restaurant row that even gives swing lessons each evening. Even if you don't participate, it's good fun to watch. http://www.swing46.com/
If you're not already set on Wicked, I think "In the Heights" has much better dancing and was written by the author while he was a college student. It's younger and hipper imo.
http://www.highfivetix.org/splash.aspx is an org. that gives students low priced tickets. She could get one for you if there's anything of interest.

My daughter, 17, was just recently in NYC. Some of the things she enjoyed were:
Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island
Times Square
Musical - Wicked
Tour of Radio City Music Hall & meeting a Rockette
They also went to Empire State Building, but I would rec. Top of the Rock as others do here.
Although local don't recommend, but the kids liked the Seaport Village. DD liked the small, boutique stores for shopping.
I would also recommend Ellen's Stardust Diner for a teen as well as the shopping in mid-town.

Hi,
I just gave a tour of Midtown to a group of British teen girls a few weeks ago as part of a larger event and have these brief thoughts, based on what is within walking distance of the Gershwin theater as a guideline:
I agree that Ellen's Stardust Diner would be a kick for a teen, be ready for Song and Dance routines with your meal though.
In the Heights is a good show. Bit you say she already wants to see Wicked, and I say Why not? I also met some kids yesterday who had just come from seeing "Billy ELliot" and they loved it.
the Savion Glover show at the Joyce Theater is a exciting opportunity to see a great Dance artist perform, but remember that the cheaper "A" tickets are right up nose to nose with the stage and don't have good sight lines. I'll be at his show this weekend. It would be a very different experience than a Broadway show. The Joyce is around 19th Street on the West side, outside of the Times Square area.
SHopping: Take her to the Hollister store on Fifth and 53rd. I don't know any teen girl who doesn't like that. THen you are also right in the heart of the upscale 5th Shopping mecca (but also close to H & M just across the street from St. Patrick's Cathedral) , and a short stroll away from Rockefellar Center and Top of the Rock (the observation Deck)- which is preferable because the view includes the ESB and you can get timed tickets in advance online so you won't have to wait in line:

Must back to sleep now.
Best of luck- enjoy your day!!!

If she's really interested in theater/dance I suggest you check out the Lincoln Center web site - they offer back stage tours, tickets to rehearsals and all sorts of other special things - including a theater library with great exhibits.
