NYC Discounted Metropolitan Opera Tickets

We would love to bring our reluctant teenager to the opera for the first time, on April 22, Rigoletto. (evening performance) Does anyone know if there is a way to get discounted rates on the ticket price? We would like this first experience to be truly positive, but the cost is prohibitive. He is a student but we will not be able to get to Lincoln Center at 10 am for the line.

Thanks so much for your time and courtesies!

Suzy

The Family Circle seats are $25. That's too much?

Family Circle are $30 if not too far back

Balcony are $85, provided not in the first 3 rows. I subscribe and have sat in the balcony. yes you may need binoculars, but you can see and hear it all

if you want to sit further down its a lot more expensive.

I suggest, if you haven't already, actually going to the www.metopera.org site and looking at the available seats yourself.

There is no reason for anyone to be waiting in any lines.

occasionally groupon will have discounts, or broadwaybox.com and if tickets are not selling well sometimes the met will cut their own prices...but you cannot count on that to happen, or that there will be any discounts.

This production of Rigoletto set in a 60s las vegas hotel, has been around a few seasons and has been broadcast on pbs too..as its not new you will find tickets in all price ranges.

for student tickets you son can register online and purchase online a discounted ticket for the performance if its being offered. he should register and see if it will be offered he does not have to do this at the box office.
