NYC - 10 days of unique shops/ stores/ snacks - share your favorites please

Jump to last reply

Thanks so much to everyone who shared their favorite museums.

I'm headed up soon for 10 days in Manhattan. I'll be doing a little bit of working (my work), a whole lot of dogwalking (my NYC "job") and spending time in blocks of a few hours trying to see and experience things I've not seen before.

On my last trip, a friend asked me to buy her a tin of the amazing chocolate at MarieBelle -

I discovered a wonderful shop I'd never heard of, met up with a delightful Fodorite there and we wandered a bit in the area (her neck of the woods) and had a great dinner.

That experience reminded me a bit of finding my first Laduree shop in Paris. One day I'm going to scan those pics because one of my favorite pics is out front. The delight in both actually BEING at Laduree and tasting one of the famous macaroons showed on my face. One of my favorite Paris memories :-)

My longtime favorite shop to stop in and find a little something is Fishs Eddy. Not on everyone's radar, but purchases here are some of my favorite souvenirs -

How delightful to be in the city with one of my friends who invited me to join him and his little girl for her first ever experience at the American Girl store -

I've loved the Foods of NY tours and think I'm going to go on the Chinatown tour this time -

And based on random googling and searches, I think I'm going to try the inexpensive (clothed) massages at this Chinatown location -

I stil haven't been here - http://www.dylanscandybar.com/gifts/
and have never actually made it to Serendipity...yet.
But, I was happy that we didn't have to wait in line for a cupcake at Magnolia Bakery - while on the Sex and the City tour

So, those are the kinds of things I'm looking for. A unique shop or experience, a great tea or chocolate shop, a store you won't find everywhere else (like Fishs Eddy) or anything unique or "traditional" for NYC.

Suggestions welcomed. Those are starting points.
During this trip I'll be with someone 1/3 of the time, solo 1/3 of the time and meeting up with friends 1/3 of the time. My base will be the UWS, but I'll probably venture out to a new neighborhood each day.

Looking for at least 10 new ideas - one for each day! Many thanks, ((*))
