NY XMas Dining Recommendations

Does anyone have a restaurant recommendation for Christmas dinner in New York city? I'm looking for something nice, that also has a vegetarian option for my daughter.

Any price range and location. We are staying in the theater district. The only restriction is they need to have at least one type of vegetarian offerien. Thanks!

Check out opentable.com
They will have lists of all restaurants open on Christmas and menus. You can reserve on line also.

I would suggest not wasting time as I wasn't able to get a table in 2 of my chosen restaurants for 27th and 28th december!

If you can't get a reservation on opentable.com, try calling the restaurant. I've had several occasions where opentable had nothing, but when I called it wasn't a problem.

Most restaurants offer vegetarian options, so that should be a major problem.

Has anyone had any experience with B. Smith's or Shun Lee's?

Shun Lee is excellent sophisticated Chinese and has been a favorite for years - both the one near Lincoln Center and the East Side branch. Not sure this is what I would choose for Christmas dinner though - but given your need for vegetarian perhaps not a bad idea.

We finally had a late after theatre dinner at B.Smith's this summer. It was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in New York. The people next to us sent all their food back and the manager came out and then comped their entire meal. Bad night? Too late?

You don't say whether you want something fancy or not. O'Neal's is a more casual place with a nice Xmas menu (no vegetarian) BUT you can evidently order a la carte where there are a few veggie options.

I recommend Carmines for some good family style Italian food. It is basically a step up from Olive Garden/Macaroni Grill but everything is family style.

I had an excellent meal at the East Side Shun Lee a few months ago. Another place for equally good Chinese food and plenty of vegetarian options, not as well known as Shun Lee but closer to the theatre district, is Chin Chin, on East 49th Street. Ask to sit in the front room if you go there. Make sure to book ahead because Chinese places in New York City will be very busy on Christmas Day.
