NY subway or cab to Penn Station

How long is the walk from W. 46 St and 7th Ave to Penn Station and is it a safe walk early on a weekend morning? Would cab or subway get me there much quicker?

At most a 15 minute walk. I'd only take a cab if you were carrying a lot of luggage.

Its safe.

You're talking about 12 blocks, a little over half a mile. Perfectly safe -- whether you walk or ride depends mostly on your stamina and luggage.

13 blocks...perfectly safe. Should take about 20 minutes.

If the weather is lousy walk up to the 50th St. subway station on Broadway, opposite the theatre where "Mamma Mia" is playing. Take the DOWNTOWN train 2 stops to Penn Station. OR you can take the bus straight down Seventh Ave. Cost $2 per person, you'll need a MetroCard.

Probably the best route would be straight down Seventh Avenue.

Straight down 7th is the only thing that makes snese - since that's where you're coming from and also the main entrance of Penn Sta.

And what's with this safe business? You're in the middle of Manhattan surrounded by millions of people - everywhere is safe!

Don't be intimidated by New York. It is full of people who are busily going about their day, not paying any attention to you. But if you need any help, you will immediately be advised to death. Al those busy people will all of a sudden be the best friends you could find. The only problem is that they will then be arguing with each other about the best advice to give you.

They are wonderful! There is no one more helpful than a New Yorker who is giving advice!
