NY Philharmonic free show tonight at Central Park
I live in NYC but have never been to this event that is taking place tonight. Can someone who has been tell me what happens if some of your group arrives late? Can they still walk around to find their group or do you HAVE to be there by 8? Thanks!

The concert is on the Great Lawn (no seats, bring blankets)--with space for more than 100,000 people--so people come and go (and chat and eat) throughout the evening. If you're trying to catch up with a group--you'd better have a very specific meeting location in mind, and make sure you have your cell phones. People do bring colored balloons and banners to try to make it easier to find them, but with so many people there...
BTW, There are definitely sections of the lawn (up front, in the middle) where people are not very tolerant of interruptions, and coming late will not be very good. The areas around the edges of the lawn tend to more for the picnicking and chatting crowds, so choose your location accroding to your needs

oh, by "no seats" I meant that chairs aren't provided. You can bring beach chairs, but it's best to make them the low to the ground kind, so you don't block the view for others (not that you can see much from most locations).
Hope the rain holds off for tonight!

People start claiming space around noon - bringing blankets, low beach chairs and complete picnics with them. By 8pm you will be WAY at the back of the crowd (hundreds of thousands of people) and will be able to hear - but not see anything without binoculars.

And no - you can;t come late and push through everyone to try to get to the front. For one thing it's way too crowded - every inch is covered with people. And for another, this is New York - and you wouldn;t survive the nasty comments.
