NY hotel with teens - choices!

You have all been really helpful and please forgive me for dragging this out.... I am usually a very fast decision maker. But this is the deal about me, my daughter and her young teen girl cousins and we are taking the girls for their first trip to NY.

Money is an object - but not a huge one...as in, I would prefer not to waste an extra thousand$$ on an unnecessary hotel room...but I will if you all think it is worth it.

We have these possibilities - and you can add more :0)
Giraffe, Salisbury, London NY, Barclay

looking for two bathrooms and a bit of separation for sleeping...but we do like to hang out together...

also looking for easy location...subway...food...pleasant hotel...

Wow! thanks for your input! Cabo

You could consider the Affinia Manhattan on 7th and 31st. We stayed there in March and found it very convenient. Right next to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, walking distance to Times Square. Rooms and very solid (not sure about all of them) have small kitchenettes. It is clean and comfortable and was under $200 per night which is good for NYC ... more impressions below ...

The affinia group has several all suite hotels - so you could pick something that has the configuration you want - including 2 baths. The Salisbury also has suites - don;t know if they have any with 2 baths or not.

In the other hotels I think you would do better with 2 rooms - 2 bedroom suites would be VERY expensive.

When you say
"We have these possibilities - and you can add more :
Giraffe, Salisbury, London NY, Barclay"

I assume that means they have availability and the price works for you -

if so, we often stay at the Giraffe when visiting my daughter and love that hotel - here's the trip report from our last stay there w/ info on the hotel amenities
http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...1&tid=34983070

it is also an easy walk from the Giraffe to Union Square, which the girls would like for shopping- (incl Filenes basement and an amazing view from the top floor of that: no, it's not in the basement..) cafes (Tisserie), the huge farmers market in the middle and often artists selling wares, etc (you don't say which weekend, but look on the web for what is happening regarding artists/crafts fairs in the city esp in union square or soho area) - and the Madison Park (shake shack) is close by - this location is a bit more in a neighborhood type area to me than the London NY

We have also staye din the London NY, but when it was the Rihga Royal - great location, closer to walk to Times Sq and all the more touristy spots, so this might be a better location for teens first trip - they are just a few blocks from all that tourist action, but it's a quiet and excellent hotel.

The other option if you want a suite, although they also have standard rooms, would be the Kimberly - you might want to chekc that out online also -

sometimes 2 rooms w/ either connecting door or on same floor (depending on their ages of could they be a floor or two away from you) - is less than a suite-

if you are looking for the easier location probably the London NYC if you are doing Central Park, 5th and Madison, Times Sq, which I imagine the girls would want to on their first trip - and yuo can subway to Soho, etc - Giraffe is great, but it is not as close to walk to all those things, but closer to Madison/Union Parks -

I agree
>the Affinia hotels are often the best option for a suite
>some of the other hotels on the list (ie Giraffe, Barclay) may be better with 2 separate rooms. We don't know what suite/configuration you've been offered

The Salisbury sticks out to me as a real budget option amongst more upscale hotels. Their suites are very large and the place is clean, but it ain't the Ritz. If there's an option at the London that gives you 2 bathrooms and is affordable, I'd go with that.

My parents used to practically live in the two bedroom apartment in the Salisbury and I highly recommend it. While it is true that the Salisbury isn't as nice as the other hotels, this apartment is huge and very accommodating.

It has two bedrooms (King in one bedroom and two queens in the second) two full bathrooms, a massive living room, a kitchenette and dining room.

Plus, the location is outstanding.

I have also stayed at the Giraffe which I loved.

My 16 year old son and I stayed at Giraffe's sister hotel Casablanca 2 weeks ago. It is literally located rignt off of Times Square but so quiet. We loved it and will definitely stay there again.

Thank you all very much. I got distracted from this because someone actually wanted me to WORK today. The nerve! We'll mull over the options and try to make a decision in the next couple of days.

I'm begining to sound like a broken record but we litterally have hundreds of hotels in Manhattan, and in many price ranges.

You didn't mention just when you are going to be here, so if it is during the HOT weather, June/July/August I would suggest staying at the Travel Inn on W 42nd St. It is a nicer budget hotel, and it has a POOL, which is great after a hot day or running around the city. The website is www.travelinn.com

Also check some of the discount websites for tons of good suggestions, you can plug in your dates of travel to find out the rates on LOTS of hotels, and info on location, distance to sites and amenities.
www.hotels.com
www.expedia.com
and there are several more you will find as you search.

Also every weekend there are street fairs in Manhattan that your girls will love, so a google search and ther are a couple of companies that sponser them each week.

Also www.nytourist.com will give you lots of ideas on what to see, concerts in the park and lots more.

Have a great time while you are here.

I gave you the wrong web address for the Travel Inn, it's www.thetravelinnhotel.com and you also might try the www.newyorkhotels.com site as well.
