I'm driving from Duluth to Thunder Bay in November. Not sightseeing, just trying to get there quickly, but can't afford the airfare. My map searches show this as being a little less than 200 miles, but over 5 and a half hours of driving. Can this be right? Is the road that slow?
Thanks

Rocks and Roads in Utah

I've made this drive several times in the October/November timeframe. The north shore drive from Duluth to Thunder Bay is a sometimes scenic, usually 2-lane highway. Most of the spots that tourists stop at are either right on or just off the highway. Therefore, during the tourist season, it really could take 5 1/2 hours as traffic slows around those tourist spots. There are several small towns along the way where you will have to slow down. Even off season I would allow at least 4 hours. Another factor is possible bad weather - November in northern Minnesota and Thunder Bay is the start of winter.
This drive will never take 5 hours. We have done the drive many times and the very most I can imagine is 4 hours tops. We just drove from
Duluth to Grand Marais and made it in two hours and Thunder Bay is only about 1-1/2 hours from Grand Marais. The only way it can take 5 hours is if you stop everywhere. Have fun!!
