North Rim/Grand Canyon

Anyone have ideas on where to stay other than the lodge inside the park on the North Rim? Seems they only have 2 bedroom cabins left in late September and are over $120. What about outside the Park? Anyone stay at Kaibab Lodge? Heard a review that is was rundown and dirty. Thanks.

Personally, I would grab the cabin (I wish I could...we have four people and have to get two frontier cabins at over $100 each for our July visit). You really wouldn't be paying much more than the cheapest alteratives at the Lodge.

Good luck. You can also continue to check for cancellations.

The nearest accommodations are 41 slow miles away near Jacob Lake on Alt. 89. This commute would not be worth it to us.

Kaibab Lodge says they are only a few miles from the North Rim entrance station. The N. Rim entrance station is 11 miles and away from the North Rim. It's 18 miles from Kaibab Lodge to the rim. You should figure on it taking 35 - 40 minutes to drive each way from Kaibab Lodge.

Jacob Lake is 45 from the North Rim and that can take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hours...depending on the traffic and if you get stuck behind a motorhome.

I have no exeperience with any of the lodging, cause we camp. I just have experience with the drive and this is not an interstate highway!

For the small amount of money you will be saving, I would grab the room at the rim. There is a very good chance that there will be a cancellation before you arrive and you can swap rooms.

But, the extra space is worth the few extra dollars. I think you are in the range of $10.00 difference.

I might add that most of late September is totally sold out.
I would not wait.

Take it and be greatful. We will be there the first week in October, and our cabin for two is $98.00. The extra $twenty + has to be woth it, and look at all the room you'll have to stretch out.
