Hi all - Will be heading down to Myrtle Beach on the 13th of Sept. (flying) and then staying at the Tilghman Resort in North Myrtle Beach. Any opinion on whether we should rent a car or not. Are the taxis expensive and easy to find or should we just rent at the airport? Also looking for some suggestions on things to see and do. Thought we might go to the Alabama theater but wondered if it was worth it or not, same goes for the HOuse of Blues. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly apprecaited. Oh just myself and husband - early 60's.

I'd definitely rent a car. Cars are cheap at MYR, especially for weekly rentals.

I second the car idea. House of Blues is always fun. Crocodile Rocks at Broadway on the beach is fun.
Murrells Inlet is the place to eat.. The Inlet Crab House or Drunkun Jacks..

You need a car. Second Murrell's Inlet for the best seafood on the coast.

You will need to rent a car because Tilghman Resort is about 20-25 miles north of the airport.

Alabama Theater is a good choice, but if I could only see one show, it would be Carolina Opry.(You can't go wrong with either one.) You might also enjoy Good Vibrations which alternates nights with the regular show at Carolina Opry. It has a lot of songs from the 60s and 70s, and I could happily sing along with every one, I'm sorry to admit! LOL.

Whether you go to eat, or just to walk on the Marshwalk, don't miss Murrells Inlet. An don't forget your camera!

The Marshwalk restaurants are all nice, and offer a lovely view of the Inlet. You will often see boats bringing in the "catch of the day." You can save a little money by going for lunch instead of dinner.

The Market Common area offers a lot of shopping and restaurants, including PF Chang.

Any votes on the top "not to be missed restaurant" Preferably not Italian (although we love it - my husband has gluten restrictions)
Seafood would be a top choice. Will try to make it to Murrell's Inlet but not sure we will. Any other suggestions. Three days and counting.

Go down to Pawley's Island and eat at Maverick's. It's in the Pawley's Island Hammock Shop complex--Louis Osteen's old restaurant. OR go to Frank's in Pawley's island. Make a reservation.
Pawley's and Murrell's Inlet are not that far, and the food is superior.

Calabash is close and "fun". It is nothing like it was 40 years ago when it was "the" place to go for classic coastal seafood (fried, that is) and you chose from 8 different restaurants that all vied for "the best there is". If you want really really good seafood I'd still go to Pawley's. If you want classic fish camp seafood, go to Calabash.
I can't remember the name of the place on the corner before you turn to go down to the water but it is supposed to be the best in town now. It used to be Ella's. Do NOT go to Dockside.

I remember our parents taking us to Calabash 30 years ago when I was a kid. Pure torture for the kids. At least 1 hour wait (usually with nowhere to sit and often in the hot sun), then 20 minutes of bliss as we stuffed ourselves with all you can eat popcorn shrimp, then 30 minutes of torture in the car ride home with a stomach about to burst.
