We will be in Topsail Beach for 2 weeks which will include the 4th of July. In the past while visiting there,we have gone to Southport and Wilmington for the 4th of July festivities. Does anyone have any suggestions for other places to go? We figured we would avoid Myrtle Beach because of all the traffic / crowds. We would like to experience something different this year. Maybe some small town celebration we are not aware of. Any thoughts on Murrells Inlet ? It will be my husband , myself ,and two 19 year old boys. We are willing to drive in order to go to some place unique. Thanks for any suggestions.

I just drove through Myrtle up to Ocean Isle on Saturday. Grant you, it was Bike Week, but the traffic between Murrell's and OI was horrendous. I can only imagine how it will be in July. There's a bypass that might make it easier. I found out about that too late. Boo. Georgetown, south of Myrtle, is a nice town as is Pawley's. Neither will have action packed celebrations.
Murrell's Inlet is fun on the 4th. We got a place at one of the boardwalk bars and watched the boat parade. BUT lordy, I would NEVER drive from Topsail!!
It's an hour and a half MI to Wilmington and you have to at least take the "bypass" around MB.
Just have a BBQ.
