Spending this Saturday through Tuesday in NOLA with hubby and two kids, ages 12 and 10. Of course the only day they are calling for rain is Monday and neither is open. So, trying to decide if we should spend a whole day inside missing the glorious weather to do both or just pick one. Read that we should buy tickets in advance.
NOLA if you had to chose one insectarium or aquarium?

Well, unless your kids are really into bugs - I would do the aquarium. It really is spectacular. And there is an IMAX theatre there, too.
It depends. How much do you like bugs vs. fish? We've been to the Aquarium and though it was really nice. We are heading back to NOLA next month and will try the zoo this time.
I have not read about buying tickets in advance. We bought ours at the ticket window when we arrived.
Audubon Zoo is fabulous! Be sure to save some room in your stomachs for meat or crawfish pies at the little cafe in the Swamp Exhibit. yum.....
The aquarium is world class. And that's even in relation to our local one (Dallas World Aquarium), which is very cool, and the one we visited in Barcelona, which is reputedly one of the best in Europe.
And it's not just fish - other critters abound including some really cool tree frog displays (the little hoppers come in all sorts of colors).
Aquarium.
Me, personally, I would go for the bugs. The aquarium didn't do much for me at all.
