I know I'm posting this a little late, but we're flying out of JFK at 10pm tomorrow for an international flight.. Has anyone had any experience on how traffic is on GWB on Christmas Eve? What time should we leave? I imagine people would want to be in NY by 6.. So would it be safe to leave at 6? I'm just worried we won't make our flight if we have to sit in traffic for 4 hours! -__- please help! Thanks!

I would double check my route as I prefer to go NJ Turnpike (Exit 13) to Goethels Bridge to the Verrazano Bridge to Belt Parkway to JFK. From exit 13 I would allow 2 hours ( but I have done it in as little as 60 minutes.)Bring plenty of cash for tolls unless you have an EZ pass.
I agree that the southern route is best to get to JFK these days. I dont think rush hour will be bad tomorrow, but the construction is really tying things up. But the tolls are quite a bit higher than over the GWB. I don't think you'd be stuck in traffic for four hours regardless. But I'd also check traffic before heading out. If it's bad, take the Goethals.
Manhattan should not be crowded as most offices that are open, will close in the early afternoon. And it is a big vacation week as well.
That said, I too would take some southern route and avoid the City.
There may be some traffic going EB. (Christmas Eve Dinner). You probably need to be at Goethals Bridge no later than 6PM. They recommend arriving at least two hours before international Flight. I would listen to traffic on AM 880 (traffic on the eights) and AM 1010 (traffic on the ones')
Good Luck.
Thanks everyone! I hope it won't be too bad but we'll take your advice and leave no later than 6pm and will take the southern route.. Thanks again and happy holidays
