We went to Niagara Falls last summer and have to say it is breath taking - you have to see it - Our favourite attraction was the Maid of the Mist - which is where you take a boat actually to the falls
- you all get given a blue plastic mack - you get soaked but the roar of the water is fab. There are many attractions such as The Gorge Walk which allows you to walk along the water by the rapids, a cable car across the river (too frightening for me!).
Another thing to do is the walk behind the falls - all I can say is plenty to do and you'll have a fantastic time. In the UK we have nothing to compare it to.

Chris: I prefer the Canadian side, myself. The Maid of the Mist is pretty cool, alright. Go early and avoid the crowd. You can take the elevator up to the observation deck on Skylon Tower. What a view! On Lundy's Lane there are all kinds of attractions- like Ripley's "Believe it or Not", among others. Some are cheesy and some are OK. Nearby is Marineland which is a "Sea World" type of park with various rides like an amusement park and it has a deer petting zoo. There is plenty to see and do. Your hotel will have lots of info. Have fun!

Definitely stay on the Canadian side. I am from the US but trust me the Canadian side is far nicer. In fact the US side is not very nice at all and the city of Niagra Falls, NY is pretty bad. On the other hand the Canadian side is very attractive and nice. All of the suggestions by the above messages are excellent.
