Newport Transportation from Providence Airport
Hi,
I am traveling to Newport for a wedding (arriving in PVD around 4:30pm on Friday) and need to figure out my options as far as getting from the airport to Newport. I'd rather avoid renting a car because once in Newport I'll be involved in wedding activities and will not need transportation there. Is there a good, reliable way of getting to Newport via public transport? How about an airport shuttle - how much would that run two people? Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

The Providence airport is actually located in Warwick, RI and it is about 18 miles to Newport. There should be little traffic at your arrival time since Warwick is south of the Capitol. You will encounter some local traffic in Newport.
The cab choice is easy. There is a cab line right outside of the baggage claim area. I would say the ride would be about 30 minutes. I am not sure of the cost because I am local.
The next choice is the Cozy Cab shuttle which runs between Newport and the airport. You can get their info at <www.cozytrans.com.> It looks like it is $20/person.
Their are also limo options and you can get more info at www.gonewport.com and search under transportation.
If the shuttle is 20 per person, I would say that 2 people splitting a taxi ride would be the best choice and it would eliminate the extra time to do a shuttle

I can't find RI's taxi rate online, but from TF Green to Newport is about 28 miles according to Newport's official visitor site, as well as estimating from various mapping sites.
I've taken a cab from TF Green to Bristol, RI few years ago. It is about same distance (but going north around Providence) and cost me around $80. Going to Newport will add the bridge toll, though at $2.00, it's insignificant compared to the meter fare.
