I am taking my husband as a surprise to Newport for our 2nd anniversary weekend in September. I heard great things about the Castle Hill and Cliffside, but both are a little more than I wanted to spend. Any other suggestions? Anyone ever stay at The Artful Lodger, The Wynstone, or The Willows? Help, I need to book soon!!!

Hi Karen,
As an alternative, you could consider the Howard Johnsons' on West Main Road - my brother stays there and usually gets decent rates. Also, there is a Quality Inn in Middletown ( right next to Newport)and a Best Western in Middletown which may also have better rates.Sorry, I am not familiar with the three B&B's that you mentioned. There may even be a new Residence Inn in Middletown which may be less.
Castle Hill Inn is my favorite, but I know it's very expensive. Any hotel that you pick in Middletown will only be a short drive to Newport, and this may be your best option. Good luck!!

There are many great b&bs in Newport. One that was nice that we stayed at was the Victorian Ladies B&B right in Newport. Very beautifully restored victorian house with excellent b'fasts. I've heard great things about the Frances Malbone House (a bit pricey, though). Your best bet would be to check out a B&B guidebook (I know Fodor's has one). Or do a search on the web for Newport B&Bs -- they must have a website, because there are SO many B&Bs there.
Have fun, Newport is a great place for a celebration!
