I may be near Newport on Christmas day, Considering normal December weather (not exactly beach weather) does anyone have suggestions of non-traditional / non-holiday activities for the day? Understandably, the mansions are closed. I did look at the seasonal events list at http://www.christmasinnewport.org/

A Visit to Charleston

There's always a chance the weather will cooperate (relatively warm, not snowy), and if so you can walk the more developed sections of the Cliff Walk or explore a park (Ft. Adams, Brenton Point, etc.).
Drive over the bridge to Jamestown Island and hike in Beavertail SP.
Thanks. Any other New Englanders or New England travelers checking in here over the weekend?
I should add that I've been to Newport many times, but not much in the winter. Cliff Walk and Beavertail are 2 of my summer/fall favorites .
Assuming the weather isn't dreadful, I'd also drive up to an hour (but preferably less) if anyone has ideas for outside Newport.
Here's the weather forecast for Newport RI on the 25th:

Go over to Mystic Seaport (check if it is open), go for a hike in Ninigret SP in RI, or Barn Island in CT, go to Watch Hill and hike out to Napatree Point, check out Stonington Burough, and if you're really bored head over to one of the casinos.
