I will be visiting a friend who lives in Corona Del Mar July 14-18th. I need a hotel that is close to that area but also within a mile of the beach (newport??). We will not have a rental car and will be on our own Friday.
We don't want to spend alot $100-$120 a night. We don't need anything special. Proximity to the beach is our main concern.
Any ideas???

Corona del Mar is actually part of Newport Beach. It has its own beach, but there are not really any hotels. If you want to stay on the Newport Peninsula, therefore really close to the beach you will spend quite a bit. There is (I think) a Travelodge, unless they changed their name. Although, unless you have someone to drive you around, taxis will be quite expensive. Our city bus system is awful. You may want to consider staying in a hotel in Costa Mesa and renting a car. The hotels near South Coast Plaza would be your best bet.
