We're doing a road trip and will be in Gatlinburg on March 29th. Will the Newfound Gap Road be open for the spring at that time? We'll be traveling with a 10 month old... so we don't want to drive anything too challenging.
Newfound Gap Road opens when?

The road is never closed for the "season" - it just closes periodically during the winter if there is snow or ice. Unless we get a late, unusual snow you should be fine. A few days before you should be able to get a pretty acurate weather forecast. Enjoy the area.

I would check the weather right before you go.Newfound Gap never closes unless there is snow and ice, higher up towards Clingmans Dome you might run into snow but hopefully towards the end of March you should be fine. It snowed up at LeConte lodge a couple of days ago. They got 7 inches of snow.
Just got from Townsend and the SMNP last night. When we were there, the road was open but the Clingman's DOme road was not. Construction near the Appalachain Trail. Be careful driving through the clouds
Have fun, it was very cool at the top even when we left sunshine and gorgeous weather at the bottom. Check in with the Sugerlands Center for updated on the open/closed roads. The rangers there were very helpful.
