New York City shopping

Hi, doesn't anyone have ideas for great consignment shopping in NYC? Second time round, vintage etc? I am heading there soon and love shopping at these shops ~thanks ~

Aer you looking specifically for vintage, or primarily for values? Regular high-end retailers in NYC are so desperate, their stores are currently offering deeply-discounted prices that normally are only seen in the consignment shops:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/04/fa...PING.html?_r=1

"In a move that caused consternation among its high-toned competitors along Fifth Avenue, Saks slashed the bulk of its fall fashion and accessories up to 70 percent over Thanksgiving weekend ... Will shoppers ever again want to buy luxury goods at full price? The depth of the challenge was suggested by the incongruity this week of seeing Prada wallets, usually kept under glass at Saks, dumped into display stands that at Wal-Mart are known as “end-caps”".

Remember, the merchandise that they are trying to sell this season was ordered months ago, before the economy started hurting so badly. Now the pricey stuff is a hot potato that nobody wants to get stuck holding on January 1. if selling at a loss is inevitable, it's better to minimize the losses than to get stuck with unsold stuff.

There are several small shops in the East Village. Beacon's Closet in Brooklyn I believe is one of the better ones. There are shops all over the city, some are more specialized with home furnishing, some with designer items, and then also the usual Goodwill and Salavation Army.
