New York City Shopping - for 1 day and 1 night

Jump to last reply

My sister and I are planning a very short trip to NYC in May - by train - staying over saturday night - returning sunday. Our main focus is shopping with a decent place to eat.

The last time we were in NYC (also for 1 day/1 night) - summer '07 - we stayed at the Doubletree Metropolitan at Lexington and 51st. It seemed to be a good location (we aren't very familiar with the city) but unfortunately it is sold out for our date in May.

Thought I would post on Fodors and see if there is a moderately priced hotel (under $250) that one would recommend as well as maybe a good location other then where we stayed last time. Our shopping last time basically consisted of a list of stores that we wanted to visit - so I can't 100% say where we want to shop - other than 5th avenue, etc - the main shopping districts -

Also, any good recommendations for a mom and pop's type Italian place - that serves the good old Italian dishes - little italy maybe?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!
