New York City over Easter - Closings?

.easter closings are much like Christmas. The major department stores are closed, you might check store websites for more info.
I don't know about museums, so again check there. Restaurants will be open and transport is running of course.

This is our first time in NYC...so those things you mentioned, along with walking tours. Was afraid a lot of restaurants/museums might close...or close early. Didn't know how caught-up in the Easter holiday businesses would be with the Easter Parade and all.

It looks like the Metropolitan Msueum is OPEN that day--I was surprised as I'm pretty sure they have been closed some Easters past http://www.metmuseum.org/visit/general_information/
Major department stores are often closed, but nowadays--who knows? Fancier restaurants may be closed and or have special higher priced Easter meals, but more casual and neighborhood restaurants are generally open.
The Easter Parade is really a promenade, not a big parade with bands and such. It's festive and popular, but not a huge event here like the Thanksgiving parade
As Dreamer2 Pointed out, it's only the one Sunday. Easter Monday is generally not observed, and while city schools close on Good Friday, virtually everything else operates normally

There are millions of people in NYC that don't celebrate Easter, so with some exceptions even Easter Sunday will be just like any other Sunday in NY.
Instead of closed you may actually find many places busier than usual since it's still spring school break for many students & families. If you plan to show up at places like MOMA or American Museum of Natural History at 2pm on Sunday you'll find huge crowds.
Specific restaurants may have earlier closing hours or Easter dinner specials (and families thus limited open tables), so you'd have to check individual restaurants you want to visit.

One of highlights in travel has been to New York at Easter time -- a few years ago I decided to go and take in the Easter Parade -- and like was mentioned above 'it really isn't a parade' but they close off 5th Avenue and people walk up and down in the best attire -- some strange ones too - but a friend of mine had sent me 5 dozen tulips and i didnot know what to do with them so I took them to the parade - and handed them out to the children(after getting permission from their parents) GREAT EXPERIENCE. Enjoy

The only things that will be closed are some of the dept. stores like Macy's. Otherwise, everything will be open. If you want an Easter brunch, make a reservation. Opentable.com is a booking site for many but not all retaurants. http://www.newyorkology.com/archives/calendar/index.php

Many families eat out on Easter - either brunch or dinner. So if you want something other than a basic neighborhood restaurants strongly reco that you make reservations in advance. Nothing will be closed except on few dep't stores on Sun - on Fri, Sat and Mon everything is open- including offices/businesses.
Easter Parade is a promenade on Fifth Ave and many people go to see the odd costumes. I remember on year a woman costumed as a southern belle (big foofy yellow dress and cartwheel hat - with her pet iguana - on the hat - in exactly the same costume - including it's own cartwheel hat.
