New York City: need hotel for parents on East 57th and Lexington. Please help.

Hi, all. It seems as if there are a lot of New Yorkers on this site who give some wonderful information and I was hoping some of you could help me.

It looks like my parents are going to be making a trip to New York City. I am trying to help them find lodging for this time period. Here is some of the criteria that I am looking for.

1. They will be there January 10-13, 2002 (Thursday-Sunday).

2. They would need to stay as close to the intersection of East 57th Street and Lexington Avenue as possible. I believe this is located on the bottom section of the Upper East Side.

3. Price Range of about $100 a night.

4. Looking for a clean hotel with decent size rooms and in safe area.

I know I'm probably asking for a lot since this is New York City (meaning expensive), but since this is after the holiday season I am hoping that someone knows if there are any good deals out there. I would really appreciate any recommendations. If anyone would like, they can email me directly at [email protected]. Thanks.

When going to NYC, I always try to stay at the Swisshotel/Drake at 57th and Park, just one block from the intersection you referenced. It is usually pretty expensive, but they run many specials when itis not peak season. I have stayed there for $129/night on a couple of differnt occasions. Definitely worth checking into as this is a very nice hotel with a really good restaurant inside and a great location as well.

The Swisshotel is a beautiful hotel and if you can get it for a good rate, so be it. But it is usually pretty expensive.

There are a couple of hotels at 57th & Lex. First, I would try the Fitzpatrick Hotel. They have two locations, one is at 57th and Lex.

Second, a much cheaper, tourist-class hotel is Habitat Hotel. It is at 57th and either Lex or 3rd. Website is www.habitatny.com. Be careful, though, some of the cheapest rates are for rooms with *shared* baths. Not sure if your parents would want that or not.

Beth: The Habitat Hotel is on the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 57th Street. Budget hotel, rooms available with and without private bath. Hotel was recently totally renovated so the rooms should be clean and new. Also the Fitzpatrick Hotel is on Lexington Avenue between 56th and 57th Street. Probably more expensive than $100 but worth a check.

Lisa: Great minds think alike. We posted at the same time and gave the same answer.

Frank -- I think we've done this before, right?!?

Beth -- definitely give the Fitzpatrick a try. While it will be more than $100, you may be able to get it for $150 or so at that time of year and it's really a beautiful, full-service hotel. It's an Irish chain and they even have tea in the restaurant in the afternoon. We put our out-of-town wedding guests there and they all loved it.

Another hotel came to mind, the Marriott Courtyard on 3rd Avenue and 53rd Street. Only about 5 blocks from Lexington and 57th Street. Full block hotel and seems pleasant, and only a couple of years old.

If you can get the drake for under 150.00, do it. It's definately worth it. The staff are very polite and attentive and the rooms are very nice.
Even though NY hotels are a bit cheaper than usual right now, it's hard finding nice hotels for $100.00-.
