New York City Hotel

My daughter (age 15) and I are going to spend a weekend in NYC. I would like to get a hotel near the theater district so we could walk to the shows in the evenings. Any suggestions on a hotel in the $200-$250 price range?

We've stayed at the Broadway Inn twice, and will stay there again:

check out the Mariott Marquis, right in theater district. It is a great location. Go on their web site. Sometimes they have special rates. Also join playbill.com and discounts are sometimes listed on this site. The Belvedere is another basic hotel in the area and check their web site. I believe under Empire Hotels. Their are many others, but these are two that I am familiar with. Many people go on priceline and bid , but it is my understanding that you might not get a room with two beds. If that is important to you, calling the hotel direct or checking their websites might be better. Playbill also offers discount theater coupons. It cost nothing to join. Both of the above hotels are convenient and within walking distant of theater and restaurant row.

We've stayed at the Marriott Marquis and the Novotel. Both are nice hotels-your daughter might like the Marriott more as it is right next door to MTV, across the street from the huge Virgin Records, ABC--really in the heart of everything. The Novotel is a little further north near the Ed Sullivan theater.

I am taking my 13 yr old daughter to NY over Memorial day weekend and got a $195 internet rate at the Michelangelo. Haven't stayed there before but it gets good reviews on here and tripadvisor, looks very nice, and is excellently located for theater, but not right on Times Square or 7th Ave (which we found preferable)-- 152 W 51st St, btwn 6th and 7th. The two shows we have tickets for (Hairspray and Wicked) are right there in short walking distance.

Also consider the Crowne Plaza on Broadway... right on Times Square and if you join their Priority Club (real easy online) they have lots of specials...

We stayed at trhe Michelangelo and liked it. However, you will have to walk several blocks to the heart of the theater district -- not a problem in nice weather and maybe a good way to see the sites.

I would go with the Marriott Marquis. If you don't mind sharing a king bed with your daughter, ask for a room that ends in "24". These are corner rooms and are little larger. They also offer a fun view of the city. The hotel is centrally located in the theater district. It is within walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants. I think your teenage daughter would really like it.

We love the Belvedere, and especially love the fact it is not right in the Times Square area, so quieter at night and less crowded for walking back to your hotel after the theatre. Have gotten good rates for them via express-res. com.

Have fun, we love New York. Your daughter would love Wicked, by the way.

Consider le Parker Meridien. Nice rooms, great location, large screen TVs, cartoons in the elevators, and a rooftop swimming pool.

We love the Renaissance Times Square. Small compared to the Marriott, but in the middle of everything.

I live in NY and have stayed at both the Marquis and the Michaelangelo. Both are nice, but very different. The Marquis is in the middle of Times Square and is very busy. Lobby is on the 8th (7th?) floor, so there is usually a wait for the elevator. A very typical large hotel.
Michaelangelo is a European boutique hotel the is subdued. Complimentary continental breakfast is served daily in the marble lobby. It is only one block from Rockefellar Center and shopping on Fifth Ave!!
