New York City Fashionistas...hot handbags? No flames PLEASE!

Okay...let's just say I am a handbag lover of the worst sort. I want to buy a few nice handbags when I am back in the motherland next month. I want to know what bags everyone is carrying in NYC right now. I was thinking of a couple of Kate Spade bags as you really don't find them here in England and maybe a Luella Gisele bag (for those of you in the know). Budget wise I can spend about $1500 (it may sound crazy to some, but we all have our thing, right?)

Burberry & Prada are good anywhere. Kate Spade is nice but not in that league yet.

Balenciaga and the Hermes Birkin Bag is alwasy a classic. Don't know if the waiting list is still 2 years long but and the price is over $1500.

Mark Jacobs bags are hot.

Hermes Birkin is definitely out of my league...for now. I keep hearing that Marc Jacobs is the way to go. Does he have his own shop?

The Dior with the wide strap in either beige or black. Or, any of the big Tod's bags are fun. Also, check out Kooba.

Just checked the Luella Gisele bags... a little too much hardware for my taste.

I love Marc Jacobs bags. There is a store in the West Village on Bleeker Street. Kate Spade is kind of over.

Mark Jacobs are definitely the "hot" bag, Saks Fifth Ave. has a whole area devoted to his product by the escalators on the ground floor (unless they moved him). Bags run $850 and up. Definitely my choice if I were to buy high end (and real).

The Luella Gisele bag looks too much like the Mark Jacobs bag I like so much.

The Balenciaga Le Dix and City Arena bags were everywhere this fall.

Okay, I am sold on a Marc Jacobs bag. Kate Spade...so over? Say it ain't so. I just retired my diaper bag and was thinking of getting that very cute, but very impractical basket one for the summer. What about the Chanel Ligne Cambon bags?

I like the Chanel Ligne Cambon small tote in pink - great for spring! I also really like Ferragamo bags, they are similar in price & style to Marc Jacobs so I guess its a matter of personal taste.

When you say the Kate Spade bags are over, do you mean all KS bags or just the boxy one with the handles on top that seem to be her signature bag. I too love some of her summer, less traditional bags and am now distraught!

check out Barneys, Coach and neiman marcus web sites for some ideas. Coach and Cole Hann have been making a come back. net-a-porter.com is worth a shot as well (good for UK-US pricing as well)

I am mostly talking about that black KS bag that everyone and their mother has...I agree that her summer bags are really cute and the prices are great. Just noting that the KS brand in general is not as popular as it once was.

Aren't those Chanel bags quite pricey?

Forgot, less expensive than Marc Jacobs but still hot, very well constructed, and very cute are the Micheal Kors bags. Great going out on the town bag when you don't want to risk the $1000 Marc Jacobs bag getting ripped off.

Keep forgetting, Prada is always in style.

It's that downtown intellectual arty look.
