New York City - Selecting an interesting place to visit

I will be NYC for a few days soon. Most of the trip is "locked in", but on Saturday afternoon I have about 4 - 5 hours unscheduled.

I would like to read some suggestions from Fodors contributors for a suitable attraction.

We can rule out eating and drinking - that comes later. We will have been to the Met, the Haydn Planetarium and the museum, the Met Museum of Art, and Central Park.
In previous visits we have been to the Statue of Liberty. We have limited interest in Ellis Island.

I am considering the Cloisters or the UN.
But, I am open to suggestions, subject to the constraints listed above.

Bronx Zoo, Botanical Garden, Aquarium, one or more of dozens of smaller museums (Tenement Museum, NY Hisortical Society, Museum of the City of NY, Folk Art Museum, Museum of TV, etc), churches (St Pat's, St John the Divine), walking tours of almost any neighborhood or topic (NYC architecture or history or ???)

I second the Frick Museum and it would be perfect for your time frame(although I never tire of the Met). Touring neighborhoods are fun, as well as hunting for historical places (George Washington' church pew, etc.). Have fun!

Do you have a serious hobby?

If so, you might find a New York store or club or demonstration site, etc.

Serious photographers love to visit B&H and some of the other pro-level camera stores. I was in NY City once with a pre-teen who loved magic,a nd we found a great magic shop and then a restaurant with a magician.

If you're from a military family, the aircraft carrier museum in the Hudson might be a good bet.

And buying a new Yorker magazine and checking out the special exhibits at the museums might narrow down your choices from Frick to Modern Art to Guggenheim. And there's the International Center of Photography.

The Frick sounds like a good one to put in the hopper for a family vote.
We always get good ideas from this board. I will tune in again soon to see if more good suggestions have been added. Thanks to all.

My favorite is the J Pierpont Morgan Library. Ancient manuscripts, the original compositions of Mozart and others, a beautiful home and collection and a lovely high tea if one feels so inclined.

The Frick is a terrific idea. Definitely take in the screen showing at the theatre there to get a deeper appreciation of their collection.

Another idea for a Saturday afternoon:
Sub to Brooklyn Heights, walk the Promenade over to Grimaldi's for great pizza; get ice cream afterwards at the nearby Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory or take a short stroll into DUMBO for the best hot chocolate at Jacques Torres Chocolate shop; then burn off all those calories by walking across the Brooklyn Bridge into the City.
