New Year's Weekend ... The Luxor and Flamingo, Vegas
Some family members (two couples) will be in Vegas for three nights, staying at these two hotels, two at Luxor, one at Flamingo. They will have two little girls, ages 8 and 9 along. What restaurants would be good, with kids this age in tow? Any ideas for things to do, in the general area of the two hotels, with two little ones along? (Don't asky me why! I'm only Grandma )

Luxor: they have 3-D movie theater (if the still run "Sharks" it's not scary at all, very educational) and there is something 4-D, I missed that one.
Luxor is on the small free monorail to Mandalay Bay with aquarium.
Luxor has a food court with fast food if kids prefer, don't remember exactly, probably McD and Quizno's.
Tropicana (across from Luxor) has free air show (gymnastics) which kids watch from a designated place, not the casino, and with parents, of course. Also there is a free bird show - don't miss! And you can take pictures actually holding those birds!
Which hotel is next to Tropicana? They have live tigers on display and close to is the Rainforest Cafe, kids will love it!
M&M has a free movie and something like a short tour.
Flamingo has a great arboretum with penguins, flamingos, ducks and other birds. And a koi pond. Free.
There is a conservatory at the Bellagio, free, beautifully decorated, everything in the room is made of flowers and plants/fruits. They change it all the time.
And of course Bellagio fountains.
Venetian - gondola rides, or you can watch for free outside of the hotel. Also there is the Wax Museum.
Mirage - volcano eruptions, and inside was the white tiger, is he still there?
At least once, take them on the monorail ride.
There is free circus at Circus Circus (of course!) - haven't been there in Vegas. The one in Reno was very entertaining for my children years ago.
Car museum at the top of Imperial Palace. Is it there they have magic show? Get coupons for free show.
Also there are rides at the Stratosphere, Sahara, NY NY.
Shopping at Caesars, and there are moving statues. There is something like Atlantis show, not sure what this is.
(and I'm dreaming of becoming a grandma some day )

The hotel next to the Trop is the MGM and they still have their lions on display, also at the Mirage (their tigers "are" still there) they also have Siegfried and Roy's Magic garden with dolphins that is nice to walk through (but they do charge admission for this). Upstairs NY,NY they have bumper cars and lazer tag, Circus Circus has their adventuredome (lots of rides). Don't forget the fireworks on New Years Eve!!

vegasnative pointed out some good sites that would be great - the Adventuredome at Circus Circus & The Secret Garden at the Mirage.
I highly recommend the Secret Garden. It's so wonderful that we try to go at least once a year. They have dolphins, lions, tigers, etc. The dolphins are awesome and do little shows. The animal display is so nice and they have some really rare species like a golden lion.
Mandalay Bay also has the Shark Reef which is fantastic. We can spend about an hour and a half in there (just 2 adults) so I imagine kids could be entertained for a bit longer. They also have a touch pool with stingrays, little sharks, and other animals.
vegasnative also pointed out the fireworks which are top notch. Plan ahead for your spot since you'll have kids with you. Talk to the hotel- they might have a spot for families. Also, the strip shuts down around 5 pm New Year's Eve (they open it to pedestrians), so make sure you're where you want to be before then.

I am going to recommend the Tournament of Kings. You can see more info about it here: http://www.excalibur.com/entertainment/tok.aspx
We have been going at least once a year for the past 4 years and our 7 year old insists on it! We have two teenagers, (oh yeah and my hubby gets sooooo into it!), that think it is pretty cool.
The food is great, you get to interact the whole time, and one thing the kids thing is so great is no silverware for anyone to eat with. The food is bountiful and absolutely delicious!
Have them skip the pirate show at Treasure Island. It is close to rated X as far as I am concerned and was upset that we waited 35 minutes to see the show that we thought was the old one only to have what amounted to barely dressed stripper type females bumping, grinding, and feeling up a pirate in front of all of the children out there. Treasure Island is trying to change to just TI, an adult fantasy, which is fine.....but I think it should be kept off the sidewalk, same with all of those strip joint cards thrust at you all the way down the blvd.

Will they rent a car? Red Rock canyon is a beautiful place for hikes and admiration, just outside the city.
Also they can take a bus to downtown to see the laser show.
Hey, what about Cirque du Soleil? Not Zumanity of course

MapBooks4U, thank you for your recommendation. I will pass all this good stuff on to my son.
FainaAgain, they will be driving to Vegas, after flying into Fresno to stay with a relative one night, so they will have a car. I don't know if they've considered seeing "Cirque"... that is something I would love to see!
Thanks again, everybody.
