Spent NYE in Venice, Italy with another couple several yrs. ago and we're spoiled. We'd like to go away, maybe just for 1 or 2 nights but don't want to spend a fortune. The group is into food and art. Would like to be reasonable drive from NYC, pretty place, something special/interesting to do/see.
Would Culinary Institute be a good idea? Places to stay near there?
Pretty place to stay in the Berkshires (I normally stay with friends)? Ct.?
Blue Hill at Stone Barns? Thanks for ANY ideas at all.
New Year's Eve near NYC--where do you go after Venice?

If you were into spending a fortune, I would suggest Mohonk Mountain House, but there are a lot of B&Bs and small hotels in the Hudson Valley. I don't know if the CIA has a New Year's dinner, but there are a lot of interesting sights around there ... the Vanderbilt Mansion and others. Kykuit is also not horribly far from there. The town across from West Point (Garrison, I think) is also interesting and has a few good restaurants.
Sorry, but I can't recommend specific places (we do have a New York State guide).
Save your money for a few years and go to Paris. It is wild.
mclaure, do you have to drive?
Charleston is just over an hour flight from NYC and fares are very reasonable.
Plus, it is such a gorgeous place!
mclaurie, did you get any ideas?
Maybe Montreal? It might give you just enough European flavor to tide you over until the next trip...
In the Berkshires either town of Great Barrington or Lenox. In Lenox a really nice place is the Wheatleigh-can be kind of pricey, but really beautiful.
