New Year's Eve in Taos, NM
We will be in Taos for the week after Christmas including New Year's Eve. We've not been there for the holiday but I have read there is a Torchlight Parade followed by fireworks.
Is this something worth driving up the mountain to see? We're staying in town and don't like driving on NYE if we can avoid it. Are cabs plentiful or few and far between? We've been stranded in Santa Fe before due to a shortage of drivers on NYE.
Also, what do you recommend doing afterwards if we do not want to stay on the mountain at Martini Tree (where I've read is a big party)? (Love the idea of a party. Not so much if we have to drive back to town.)
Any other recommendations? We're not looking to tear up the town (40's/50's somethings). Just someplace offering some ambiance, good wine, fun atmosphere and maybe music.
We're very excited to spend this time in Taos and looking forward to experience visiting a week rather than a day trip from Santa Fe!
Thanks!

Cabs will be hard, if not impossible to find in Taos. It is a long ride from town the the mountain.

Has anyone attended the light parade? Is that the thing to do in Taos on NYE? Other ideas?
Thought of having a nice dinner at Joseph's Table on NYE for our anniversary but memories of dinners past reminded us that it isn't the best night for food and service.
What to do?
(Hi Deb! I'll wave at you from Taos!)

If you go up to mountain, Tim's Stray Dog is always a fun place; should be rocking NYE.
For dinner, Old Blinking Light, Orlando's and Graham's Grille are worthy of a meal. We loved Villa Fontana for old world charm and great food, but alas I think it may be gone. Our last dinner there, RC Gorman was dining alone. Gorman knew our dinner companions [as he is THE town doc and has been for over 30 years] so he came over to the table and chatted with us for a while! What a treat as Gorman passed away a few months later.
For breakfast, Michael's of course, but Dragonfly may even be better food wise and is a bit less hectic.
