New Orleans Hotel Help 1st Visit July 2011

Hubby has a conference in late July @ Sheraton N.O. We are checking out the Marriott offerings in an effort to use points....am I understanding the layout correctly that the Marriott & JW Marriott are across from the Sheraton? Are any of the Marriott/Renaissance hotels "standouts"? Looking to have fun, explore, eat, party a bit &.....oh, yeah....attend the conference @ the Sheraton! Total stay will be 4-5 nights....we are a mid-40's couple. Thanks for any input!

We stayed at the Renaissance Arts last year (also on points) and while it was very nice, I wouldn't say anything stood out about it, other than the neighborhood, which is very nice -- good restaurants (Emeril's and Cochon, among others) are nearby, art galleries, the WWII museum. Be aware that some rooms face the outside, and some face the inner courtyard and have no windows to the outside world.

J W is very nice. It's big and I prefer smaller hotels but it's in a perfect location, safe, great service, good bar and close to FQ.

NO....none of the Marriots are "stand outs" but if I HAD to stay at a N.O. Marriot it would be the J.W.

I travel here a lot, and live there briefly....listen to the others...if you have to/want to go here, than at least stay somewhere to get the feel of history such as the Moteleon. The other side of the coin is staying in upscale hotels like the W or the Windsor Court.

It's the Hotel Monteleone. It's on Royal and Iberville in the French Quarter. We usually stay there. It is well located, a lovely hotel with great staff.

The best hotels in NOLA are Windsor Court but it's not in the FQ. The Ritz Carlton IMO is the best. Royal Sonesta and Royal Orleans at the next best.
