New Orleans Hotel

Looking for opinions on hotels in the french quarter, Dauphine Orleans, Maison Dupuy and Le Richelieu. Planning on a 40th bday celebration with a group of six. Any restaurant recommendations in french quarter would be great too. Was thinking Nola ans Mr.B's Bistro.

Never stayed at any of the hotels you have mentioned...but have stayed at the Ritz on Canal St...one block from Bourbon, less expensive alternative in the same building is Iberville Suites which is run by the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans both are good choices if you can get a deal...so many good restaurants in the French Quarter, I'll name a few of my favorites.. Galatore's, GW Fins, Bayonna, Peclican Club. Mr. B's is great for the Sunday jazz brunch. Hope this helps.

Of the three you mention, I'd stay at Dauphine Orleans. I've stayed at Maison Dupuy, not a bad hotel, but little or no character. Could have been anywhere. Dauphine has a great location.

I think the Richilieu is too far away from the action...it's past Ursuline street. I'd say no to that hotel just for location. For restaurants, you should go outside the french quarter and try Upperline and Brigsten's. Great food and bread pudding to die for. In the French quarter, try the Croissant d'or for a quiet wonderful cup of cafe au lait and the best pastries. It's right by the Ursuline convent and Beauregard's home.

Le Richelieu is not the Ritz, by any means, but if you are looking for a clean, comfortable hotel with lots of New Orleans ambiance and a great staff, then Le Rich is the perfect place. Another poster mentioned the location, but personally, I love the location of Le Richelieu because you are in the quieter part of the French Quarter. It is much more residential and gives you an entirely different feel for the area.
