New orleans

My daughter and I were planning a 5-day vacation in Charleston but have now decided on New Orleans as we live in Western Canada and the travel connections are better. We are looking for a nice place to stay in French Quarter, but not a convention-type of hotel, looking more for a boutique-type place. Budget is $300 - 375.00. Any ideas? Are there bettter rates for seniors?

I really like the Royal Sonesta or Hotel Monteleone. Check their website, or call. I'm sure they have AAA, and probably AARP rates. What time of year are you going? In fall, rates go up due to lots of football games and conventions. Winter, rates are lower. Summer is the best rates, but it's so hot and sticky, you won't want to leave your room!

Ok, you're from Canada so you need to state WHOSE DOLLARS? I'm guessing American because that's what we use in the US but if you stated your budget in Loonies, that's 230-290 US or so, which is fine.

Lots of options in the French Quarter. Check out the Valentino hotel group - we like the Place D Arms a lot.

Thanks for responses, we were planning on going beginning of May so we know that prices aren't cheap by any means, so our budget is $300 to $375 US

There are a few great places in the Garden District (cheaper).
Ride the St. Charles streetcar to Canal Street to get to the French Quarter. http://www.norta.com/Getting-Around/Our-Streetcars.aspx

We've stayed at the Hotel Monteleone twice and have been
quite pleased.

We've also stayed at the Royal Sonesta. If given the choice between the 2, I would select the Monteleone.

We have just booked at Hotel Mazarin, it had good reviews and because we will be going through Jazzfest, the other hotels I called wouldn't give AAA or senior discounts. Most places asked for full payment when booking and had a cancellation policy of 60 days with no refund offered if cancelled within 60 day period. So basically, through Jazzfest, they can charge whatever they want! Our problem is that we are socked in to those dates. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has stayed at this hotel?
