Oh, and a great place in the FQ for breakfast is the dive named Johnny's Po-Boy.

Definitely have them read this (or other) forums and also some online guides. There is just so much to do and eat in New Orleans that a compiled "must-do" list would be huge. Plus, it is impossible to tell what their personal "must-dos" would be without knowing really anything about them.

What is it about New Orleans that draws them there for their honeymoon in the first place? DH and I spent our honeymoon there, BTW - and recently returned from a trip celebrating our 10th anniversary

One thing that I think is sort of universal about planning a trip to New Orleans is to resist the urge to plan too much. New Orleans is a great place to wander and savor - whether it be strolling through the French Quarter, hanging out over coffees and beignets at Cafe Du Monde or Cafe Beignet, or listening to a great band - they need to take their time and not be over-scheduled.

Also, it will be August - so hot and steamy. My strategy for visiting during the summer is to sightsee in the morning, have a late lunch, go back to the hotel and swim in the pool and relax through the heat of the afternoon, and then go back out for the evening once the sun is setting.

November_moon's August plan sounds perfect. Enjoy Cafe du Monde, Central Grocery, and the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone.

Take the streetcar to Washington and walk 2 blocks to Commander's Palace for their weekday lunch special or weekend jazz brunch. Ask for a table in the Garden Room over looking the courtyard. After lunch walk 3 blocks to Magazine and go W. Visit the neat shops and stores there. Visit the WWII DDay Museum. There's a great restaurant there with a 3/6 PM half price drinks and 75 cent sliders special. Visit the clubs in Marigny on Frenchmen Street.

Great suggestion, and while you're there enjoy the 25 cent martinis (during the week).

I also meant to reccomend Oceana on Conti Street, just off Bourbon, for great breakfasts.

Isn't that the restaurant that was featured on Kitchen Nightmares? I have never eaten there, but remember walking past it last December.

Grexx3, I don't know about Kitchen Nightmares, but we had one of the besy breakfasts ever there.

Pre-Katrina, we used to enjoy breakfast at Petunia's, which did not re-open. According to the staff at Oceana, they purchased (or somehow came in possession of) Petunia's menu.

Anyway, we liked it a lot. We were staying in the Royal Sonesta, and the restaurant is just across the street from the Conti Street exit.
