PLESAE do not stay by the Lincoln Tunnel. This is a dreadful area and Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest of the year - meaning it can easily take an hour just to get through the Tunnel. Also this is an area you don't want to stay in.
For help yuo really need to tell us what yuo mean by a moderate budget - in dollars. And I assume that you can sleep in 2 double beds - and won't need a suite.
You would be much better off staying in Long Island City, which has good subway access to Manhattan (about 10 minutes). Just make sure you pick a hotel close to the subway. There seem to be hotels available there for under $200 per night for 4 people for the week before and through Thanksgiving.
