We rented bikes on Coronado and had a great time riding all around the neighborhoods. I can't give specific street recommendations but it's a fun bike ride.

Coronado is really not that big, so you can probably drive around and see what you want.

This is the house on Ocean Blvd where the Duke and Dutchess of Windsor first met. It is also the home where the famous murder/suicide just recently took place that rocked Coronado.

The primeter of the "island" has the best and oldest homes generally speaking.

For example:
Glorietta Blvd (runs along the golf course) and the various side streets are: San Luis Rey, Margarita, Monterey Ave, Ynez, and Pomona.

Ocean Blvd: side streets tolita, Isabela, Alameda.

I would go to the Coronado Historical Society on the corner of 10th and Orange (main street) and ask if you can purchase a historic home tour guide.

This list might include the home of Adm. Stockdale (the highest ranking POW in Vietnam.)

There is a lovely park across from the library at 6th and Orange and a historic Catholic Church. On 9th & C Street is a beautiful and historic Episcopal Church as well.

yes tom is correct it is a very small area. it is probably a mile by a mile (maybe slightly larger) so you can bike or drive in a short amount of time.

Also there is a Spreckles Mansion (the sugar company owner) on First Street between D and E Ave. He is one of the real estate developers of Coronado back in the late 1800's. I believe he owned several homes but this is the only one I know of for sure.

Also check out the Hotel Del Coronado - they have a historical museum downstairs open to the public.

And some mornings - you can wonder out on the beach - and see the US Navy Seals doing their runs, training, etc.

Opps the link I gave you is not good. The address of the historic home where supposedly the Duke & Duchess of Windsor met (which apparently is not accuate historically) is

1043 Ocean Blvd.
It was also owned by Spreckles (again the sugar magnate).
The Duke of Windsor was served tea there.

The Duchess of Windsor (before she became) had a home on Coronado which has been moved to the lawn at the Hotel Del Coronado (location: look for the brown & green house on the Windsor Lawn next to the Ice Skating rink).

Yes! The Navy Seals are fun to watch. Their headqtrs on on The Coronado Strand across from the Naval Amphib Base.

like tom said you can see them on the main Coronado beach usually early in the mornings.

If you are in a car, you can drive up and down all the streets in a couple of hours!

I would recommend the areas Nanabee mentioned, as well as the area bordered by Alameda Blvd, Seventh Street, F Avenue and the beach. Follow Ocean blvd over to Star Park and you'll see more of the original homes around there. Another nice collection of homes are along San Diego Bay on First Street from Orange Avenue to Alameda.

Actually there are beautiful homes all over Coronado. On any block you might find a gorgeous Victorian next to a little Palmer house, Charming Cape Cod, and a very modern home.
Interesting churches are along C Avenue at 7th, 9th and 10th.

You will enjoy it even more if you rent a bicycle or get out and walk.

For Christmas decorations go into the lobby of the Hotel Del. There is a street called Country Club Lane that used to turn into Candy Cane Lane at Christmas. At 6th and Alameda Blvd, cross toward the west and it will be the next street. CCL is just the north end cul de sac of that street. You may be too early this weekend; they usually start about 1 week before Christmas.

We saw some beautiful homes near the main beach - basically, we walked west (?) (away from Glorietta Bay) on the beach, and then crossed Ocean Blvd. and walked through Star Park to town and back to the hotel.
