Nehalem River Inn, Oregon

Has anyone ever stayed here? I see that the restaurant is recommended by some.

Thank you

I don't know the rest of your itinerary, Minnie, but did note that you are spending nights at Tu Tu Tun, easily the best lodging choice on the Oregon coast. BUT, it's six miles upriver from the beach. And so is Nehalem River Inn. It would be a shame for you to drive the Oregon coast without spending at least a night or two overlooking one of it's beaches. In that regard, my recommendations would be Overleaf Lodge in Yachats, Stephanie Inn or Ocean Lodge, both in Cannon Beach.

As for the restaurant at Nehalem River Inn, I've never talked with or read of anyone who hasn't raved about it. But, I don't know anyone who's ever stayed there.

Beachbum, Probably would have been more helpful if I'd posted my itinerary. It's still a work in progress, but I did reserve two nights at the Overleaf (as so many Fodorites gave it glowing recs). The plan so far is to fly into Portland, rent car and go coastal, first Cannon Beach area where I am exploring lodging options, including the Nehalem River Inn, then to Yachats, then Gold Beach. Next to Crater Lake followed by the Columbia River Gorge and ending in Portland for a few days and then home. BTW, the Ocean Lodge is booked and the cheapest room at the Stephanie is $379 without the tax, etc. Seems a little steep.

Since you'll have great ocean views at the Overleaf, you might be ok with a non-view place in Cannon Beach--if so, I'd suggest trying the Cannon Beach Hotel or the Courtyard--cute European style places a block or so back from the beach.

Or the Arch Cape Inn sounds cool from Scarlett's description of her stay and their website.

$379!!!! Yikes! I guess it's been several years since I stayed there. So, I second NWWanderer's Cannon Beach Hotel and Courtyard Inn recommendations. ;-) They're operated by the same company. And for dining, Gower St. Bistro, which shares the building with Cannon Beach Hotel, is the best restaurant in Cannon Beach in my opinion.

Locationwise too, I think you'd prefer around Cannon Beach to Nehalem.

The Arch Cape Inn was booked. Did manage to get in at the Cannon Beach Hotel. It sounds like a delightful place to stay even without a view.

Thanks for the rec!

I stayed at Cannon Beach Hotel a couple months ago, Minnie. I doubt you'll be disappointed. Besides Gower St. Bistro, be sure to walk across the street to the glass-blower's shop; beautiful work.

I'm looking to our stay at the Cannon Beach Hotel, actually to the whole trip. We fell in love with the PNW about two years ago. I really appreciate everyone's tips and ideas.

Thanks again!

Stayed at Stephanie Inn last year..I can vouch for the price being worth it...so long as you have a OCEANfront room. Mountain side are nice but are on the parking lot side so I would pay lowest possible.

Ocean rooms are right on the ocean,,,,big patios doors to let ocean sounds and breeze in, balcony for 2 to watch the sunsets over Cannon Beach and sip Oregon wine, always full cookie jar, free van shuttle to town, send you away with cookies and 2 water bottles, free wine and apetizers nice kind....huge bathroom seperate shwr,
5* Restaurant

So up to you with lodging but if you want to be pampered for sure Stephanie Inn is the place..otherwise other options are great for enjoying the area..

Hi minnie, you should enjoy the Cannon Beach Hotel. Even if you don't stay at the NRI, maybe you could drive down for dinner there. They have excellent food there. We were in Cannon Beach today surfing at Indian Beach and enjoying the Sandcastle Festival there.

Bistro, Gower St. Bistro, the Wayfarer and Newman's are all great places for a meal in Cannon Beach. We enjoyed some yummy fudge at the candy shop across from Ecola Seafood yesterday after our clam chowder at Ecola. The salesperson there was very helpful when we asked for instructions for cooking our razor clams that my husband has been getting every morning here in Seaside.

I hope you enjoy the coast as much as we do. Let me know if you have any further questions about the area. ***kim***

Minnie, that is a great time of year to be on the Oregon coast!
No matter what the weather, we found Cannon Beach and those areas South on 101 to be just wonderful, atmospheric and romantic.

kim, will you still be visiting Oregon in August?
