this is for zwho, who also has posted the question on the thread re: LGA vs. Newark.
If you have to get from a Newark arrival to NYC via the shuttle and the train, and you have impaired walking plus luggage: 1. how long is the walk from the gate to the shuttle, and then how long is the walk from the shuttle to the train? 2. Are there any escalators or stairs involved or is it all level platforms and elevators? 3. At the Port Authority, can you get from the train to the street via elevators? Or only escalators and stairs?
Negotiating Newark shuttle and Port Authority -- steps? escalator? (4 zwho)

The train from Newark does not arrive at Port Authority. It arrives at New York Penn Station.
The express bus from Newark arrives at Port Authority. It is a bus stop on the street.

Thanks ellenem. Got it wrong here too. Perhaps the bus will work for zwho.
Thanks so much you guys! I can hyandle the escalator, and I can walk, it's just exhausting! And Penn Station, Port Authority, I don't care as long as it gets me into NYC, somewhere that my DD can easily drive to. I'm still mad about the LGA prices!
The walk at the airport obviuosly depends on which gateyou landat - but EWR is a large airport and it can be quite a walk. Coming into Penn Station in NYC you will have to ask the conductor where to find an escalator - it is mostly flights of stairs.
Also note that almost all subways are stairs - often 2 or 3 flights. A limited umber of stations have escalators and morehave elevators - but they are often not woriking. To get around the city with limited mobiity use either cabs or city buses - which have 3 steps up but can be made to kneel to the curb if necessary - butyo uhave to ask unless in a wheelchair.
