Need your "final answer": Hyatt at S.F. Wharf or Comfort Inn by the Bay?

Travelling as a family in the spring. Need pros and cons to Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf vs. Comfort Inn by the Bay? Anyone know about these hotels - cleanliness, service, location, etc.? Any other family friendly hotels <$200/nite? Thanks.

With or without kids, no question at all ... stay at Fisherman's Wharf, not the Bay. More to do, more street excitement, more fun. And convenient jumping off point to use the ferry or the cable cars to see other areas. Think Wharf!!! I kid you not.

The Wharf is a major tourist rip-off IMHO. I'd stay at Union Square and spend maybe 1/2 day at Fishermans Wharf.

I agree with both the above posts! It depends on what you are looking for in the trip. The ages and interests of your group are important. We have stayed at the wharf for the touristy experience touring the ships, visiting the Maritime musueum, listening to marine barking, etc, but whe the kids got older shopping and more Union Square activities were more attractive. The Hyatt has a good location for action packed fun for kids. Not many hotels are on the water in this area, so it is close to the wharf and shopping (Cost Plus, I think). The hotel is a nice clean place. If that is what you want it meets the ticket!

I have booked rooms at a reasonable rate (<$150) at the Handlery for our family trip this summer. It is close to the Union Station area. If you want to check the hotel, they do have a web page.

Thank you to all who responded. We think we will keep our reservations at the Hyatt. We appreciate all your comments. If anyone has suggestions about a good, CLEAN Italian restaurant and a good, CLEAN seafood restaurant with entrees under $20 - please let us know.
