need suggestions for Beach vacation in Virginia
DH and I, along with our extended family, will be in Norfolk for a wedding in June 2013. We will stay at the same hotel as the rest of the family for the weekend. However, I want to go up early and stay on the beach for two or three days with my step daughter and step daughter in law. Any hotel suggestions? Thank you.

I've stayed at two different VB hotels, each on opposite ends of the Boardwalk--one is the Hampton Inn Oceanfront North at 3107 Atlantic Avenue and the other is the Springhill Suites Oceanfront at 901 Atlantic Avenue. I would recommend either one, but I preferred the Hampton Inn a little more.

There is a nice Hilton oceanfront. Both Marriott Courtyards, the Springhill suites and the Hampton Inns are nice. All are oceanfront and are the newer nicer properties. The Hilton is the most luxurious and is in a busy area. There is usually music right next to the hotel on the weekends and they have an outdoor bar.
The boardwalk has action all up and down. There is usually a sand soccer tournament in June. Check your dates to make sure you don't have competition getting hotel dates. It is fun to watch and it is kids and adults playing soccer on the beach.
IlGiordano is a great Italian restaurant around 10th street. Aldo's is off of Laskin Rd is also a good italian restaurant. Mahi Mahs is a nice oceanfront restaurant. Rudy's is on the bay inlet, where you can rent boats and is casual seafood restaurant.
The Hilton has a nice bar/restaurant. The food is good, but the last time we were there, it took forever to be served and it was in late Oct! May have just been an off night, but when you are paying a lot of money, it shouldn't take so long to have the food come.

I worked in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk hotel market for 10 years. If you're coming in June and money is not an issue, then the Hilton VB Oceanfront is the best. In downtown Norfolk it would be the Marriott.
If you ARE on a budget, there are a few hotels on the beach where you can find a good deal, namely the Wyndham VB Oceanfront. It's about a mile from the strip and is a great spot if you don't need to be in the hustle and bustle of the strip.
If you need restaurant recommendations, I now run a website, www.757dining.com, that catalogs every restaurant in the area. It's a perfect dining guide for out-of-towners.
Here are a few suggestions...
Italian – Aldo’s http://www.757dining.com/restaurant.php?RestID=7572831
Steakhouse – Aberdeen Barn http://www.757dining.com/restaurant.php?RestID=7572943
Sushi – Mahi Mah’s http://www.757dining.com/restaurant.php?RestID=7570092
Seafood – Captain George’s http://www.757dining.com/restaurant.php?RestID=7572843
Pizza – Chicho’s http://www.757dining.com/restaurant.php?RestID=7570120
Burgers – Burger Bar http://www.757dining.com/restaurant.php?RestID=7570233
That’s enough to get you started. Have fun while here in VB/Norfolk.
