Can someone recommend a shuttle service? My husband is flying overseas and has to change airports in New York. He needs to go from Newark to LGA on one leg and JFK to LGA on the return.

There are a myriad of ways to do this trip that will really depend on things like budget and the amount of time he has between flights.

The easiest and costliest way from Newark to LGA is by car service. It will be a direct door to door. However, this may be expensive and getting from one to the other airport by road leaves a lot chance. Cost will be well north of $100.

If it were me, I'd opt for the train into New York from Newark. The train runs from the airport rail station to Penn Station New York. Figure about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on train schedule.

Once in New York, easiest option (apart from taxi) will be one of the bus lines that have a service to the airport. They do stop across from Penn Station. Total cost will be under $35.

You could also take the bus from Newark and switch at their 42nd and Park location to the LGA bus. Total cost likely to be under $30.

From JFK the LGA I believe a taxi is the best option. The airports are not that far apart and cabs are usually readily available at the airport.

There are no shuttles from Newark to either JFK or LGA. There is car service (very expensive and subject to traffic conditions) or public transit (cheaper but several steps and also time-consuming).

How much time does he have from EWR to LGA? This trip - esp in traffic - will be time-consuming - and for him to mke this connection he shuld have at least 4 hours between wheels down and his scheduled take off (more if Immigation is involved).


From JFK to LGA therre is a shuttle, but I would just grab a cab. (The shuttle can take a while due to 1) waiting for one to turn up and 2) drivig aournd the airport to allt he different terminals picking up more passengers.) A cab can take from 20 minutes to 40 minutes given traffic conditions and will be cheap - probably not muchmore than $20. For this to be safe he should have at lest 3 hours from wheels down to the LGA flight - longer if he is entering the US and has to go through Immigration and pick up this bags. (I have come into JFK at least 50 times on international flights - and from wheels down to out on the street has taken from 40 minutes to about 2 hours - due to luggge delays)

thanks for all of the info. He has four hours to get from Newark to LGA. The flight arrives around 9pm on a Sat. night. It is certainly not ideal, but this option saved around $900. Any other tips are appreciated!!

There are indeed shuttles that offer direct service from EWR to JFK or LGA. It's called ETS Airport Shuttle, and the price is $29 to JFK, $32 to LGA. You need to check to see if the timing works, though. It may be easier to just take a car service, but that's going to cost about $85.

He is, in my opinion cutting it awful close. Sometimes traffic into Manhattan ( which he has to go through) can be horrendous. --Take a taxi directly--try arranging with a car service ie. Dial 7 or Carmel. Don't go playing around with buses etc. etc. You saved $900, so you would now have saved $800 or so, but if you miss the flight you save $0

He's taking a plane out of LGA at 1 in the morning? I wasn;t aware they had flights then - esp since LGA is only short haul flights.

My mistake. The flight arrives in Newark at 9:25pm and leaves JFK (not LGA!) at 1:20am. Is this really not a lot of time? FYI, he will have just one carry on bag.

Depending on route, it's about an hour by car between the two. If it were me, I'd take the route that cuts across Staten Island and into Brooklyn via the Verrazano Bridge. From there, the bridge connects with the Belt Parkway into JFK. At that hour, traffic shouldn't be too bad. Biggest risk is road work that impacts a portion of the trip.

As he's getting in at 9:25, he's going to be more limited in his public transportation options. I would consider the benefit of having a car meet him if you can't find a scheduled van service at that hour.

No, four hours isn't really a lot of time to do the transfer given the check-in requirements for international flights at JFK. However, if he is already checked into his international flight from JFK and has no bags to check, then I think he has time to make the connection, but I think everyone else is correct in saying that the best way to do this is probably with a private car transfer. It will be expensive, but it's the best way to do the transfer.

There are more options and much less travel between JFK and LGA, so on the return he probably won't have as much time pressure, but it does depend on the time between flights.

It depedns on a couple of things:

Is his incoming flighton time (the later in the day the grater the chance of delay)?

Is there construction work (or an accident or bad weather)?

The trip door to door shuold be doable in an hour - but if he has to look for a shuttle late and night and they are deciding to do road work (done mostly at night to avoid holidng up heavier daytime traffic) he could be cutting it close. And some airlines want you to check in 3 hours ahed for internatonal flights. (I wold check the specifics for his flight)

Very cheap but.... unprofessional, late, lied to, says direct shuttle when booking reservation, but made different stops at another airport.

This is a three year old topic. One is hopeful he has made it to JFK by now.
