My boss and I are taking clients (and also, prospective clients) out for Thursday lunch and Friday dinner in connection with a conference at the San Diego Marriott.

Accordingly, I'd like some restaurant recommendations in the vicinity. I'm looking for obviously good food that will be impressive, and also, with general appeal (steak, italian, etc.)

Croce's popped up on Chowhound. Any thoughts on some recs.

With the Gaslamp across the street, you have tons of options but my fav's are De Medici for Italian, Top of the Market at the Fish Market on the second level..
I like Taka for some of the best sushi..
Lou & Mickey's is a pretty good.
Island Prime on Harbor Island is good too and they have killer views of the city and bay..
Morton's is in the Gaslamp and makes a good steak.

I second Croce's. The food is excellent and creative at reasonable prices. Good atmosphere. Often jazz in the bar. I would opt for Croce's for dinner rather than lunch.
