Since there are 50+ restaurants in that area, a little more info would be helpful. Are you looking for a restaurant on Larimer Square which is actually a one block street and not a square. And what kind of tips are you looking for? Larimer Square is nearly solid restaurants with a jewelery shop and maybe a dress shop left.

Hi Fmpden -

Which restaurant on Larimer Square is your favorite? I've heard that the Oktoberfest celebration will be going on while I'm there. Is that worth a visit?

I haven't been to the actual restaurant, but I have had a fantastic meal cooked by the Chef/Owner of TAG restaurant. He came to Crested Butte this summer and cooked for a charity fundraiser. The meal was spectacular, fresh, local and inventive but at the same time not so far out that the food was uncomfortable or unfamiliar. His restaurant is new, only open 3 months, and while I know nothing about the atmosphere of the restaurant, his cooking is phenomenal.

The Oktoberfest is a typical street fair. So from that standpoint it can be fun if you like street fairs.

TAG is new in May. Has generated a lot of hype. May be very expensive but have no personal experience with TAG.

Rioja, Italian, is considered one of the half dozen premier restaurants in Denver along with the Capital Grille (steak house) across the street. Limes, a moderate Mexican restaurant, is a fun place with good Mexican fare. Some like Tamayo better and Ted's Montana Grill is more moderate price steak house.

We have liked Tamayo for sort of 'nouveau' Mexican (my term), and have been there a few times for special events. It's not too expensive, but not cheap, either.

We also like Ted's for fun atmosphere and basic fare, like buffalo burgers, Coca-Cola in bottles, etc.

But we have had bad experiences at Lime on Larimer (and also at Lime in Winter Park). Wrong food delivered, cold tamales served, and not good food at either place.

PeaceOut and I have our disagreement over Lime and she is quick to respond when I post it. We are there three, four times a year and have never encountered her problems. It is not a five star Mexican restaurant nor is it a one star. We also disagree about Wazee Super Club (on Wazee and a couple blocks north of Larimer.) For a light meal that is our favorite place in LoDo and we are probably there three or four times a month. Depending on your tastes there are a number of excellent restaurants in the LoDo area. In fact, we will be at the Vesta Dipping Grill tonight after the ball game starts. Is there any particular reason you are focused on Larimer?

It has been about six months since we were last in Lime and haven't read a review in a while. Pulled up the Citysearch review -- bit surprised 65 out of 108 gave it four or five stars but also had 20 negative reviews. It looks like a little hit and miss. And it is a little different than you run of the mill place so it is not to some people's liking. See for yourself --

Going to have to pop in sometime soon.

Hi again Fmpden -

No, I'm open to exploring any interesting neighborhoods that you might suggest. I'm only staying overnight in Denver and all of the museums will proably be closed by the time I arrive from Taos, so I'm trying to decide what to do with the limited time that I have. I've read really great things about the Vesta Dipping Grill. Is there anything to do in their neighborhood?

If only in town for one night, where are you staying? The area north of Larimer/Market to the train tracks is generally referred to as LoDo -- LOwer DOwntown. Not sure I would view it as a neighborhood but just a large commercial area -- the ball park is to the east with a high concentration of restaurants and bars. The Dipping Grill is in that area on Blake street between 17th and 18th. About mile walk north over the Millenieum bridge, over the Platte River and the bridge over I-25 (all ped bridges) is the Highland neighborhood. More of a true neighborhood with a number of restaurants and great ice cream. Just get on the 16th street mall and keep walking north. You can find a lot of things to see, do, and eat.

I recommend Wazee Supper Club, and always have. Used to go there in the late 70s, when it was one of the only places to eat in that neighborhood, and sat under the viaduct. Great pizza. Fun, authentic little place.

At Lime on Larimer, my husband ordered salmon and was served a fish that definitely was NOT salmon. They insisted it was, and would not replace it. If it was salmon, it was the worst we've ever seen-- it was white and had no salmon taste. Also, the atmosphere there is too loud for us, and the bar smoke too invasive. Definitely run-of-the-mill. (This was awhile ago, as we stopped going there a couple of years ago.) The Lime in Winter Park served me cold, uncooked tamales. Not sure how you do that, but they were cold and gummy.

There's an article in the Denver Post today about West 32nd street, which has been a hot neighborhood lately for boutique restaurants. I haven't been to any, though. The area is called the Highlands, just west of downtown. (map in the paper today)

Another hidden gem we found is Forest Room 5 (http://www.forestroom5.com/menu.php), on 2300 15th street, I think. It has a young vibe. Good sandwiches and tapas, wine and cocktail list. Nice outdoor patio with fire pit.

P.S. fmpden, no need to make this a personal issue, as though I lie in wait for your posts so I can contradict them. I couldn't care less about responding quickly to your posts. I am only recounting my experiences. You are not the only person who knows Denver, FYI.

I apologize for misstating your position on Wazee. It must have been someone else who objected to my recommendation for Wazee. But you have negatively comment several times when I have posted that Lime was a fun Mexican restaurants. Your are entitled to your opinion but it may be a little dated. Indoor smoking was banned in Denver over three years ago so it has been more than couple of years since you were there. Time does fly.

The Denver Post article actually refers to West Highland which is around Federal and Lowell. The Highland that I referenced is centered around 16th Ave between Central and 32nd. That is walkable from the LoDo area.
