My husband and I, ages 49 and 54, purchased at an auction 4 nights and 5 days at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn. We plan on visiting wineries for the 5 days we are there. We would like to extend our vacation for another 5 days. We like to sightsee, go to nice restaurants, shop and explore. We travel allot and like going to really nice hotels and restaurants. Price is somewhat not a concern. We were looking for recommendations of where we could go from Sonoma. We don't mind flying but also don't want to go too far since we won't have allot of time to spend traveling from one place to anoth. I would love a recoomendation where we should go. Any ideas???
Need recommendation of where to go after vacationing in Somoma in July

Rocks and Roads in Utah

The town of Sonoma is only 45 miles from San Francisco.
Plenty of places to explore within a few hours - San Francisco, Yosemite, Carmel, Big Sur to name a few.
I agree, San Francisco, Carmel, Big Sur are all very nice places. I would also consider perhaps driving down to the central coast to San Simeon (Hearst Castle), San Luis Obispo (Mission), and down to Pismo for some phenomenal Clam Chowder at the Splash Cafe. Great place to stay is at the Madonna Inn near San Luis Obispo. Every room has a distinct theme.
You might also consider going north. The Sonoma and Mendocino Coast is beautiful. Historic Fort Ross, inns, shopping and nice restaurants in Albion, Little River, Village of Mendocino, Fort Bragg etc. Some very nice wineries in the Anderson Valley near Philo.
Or if you're still interested in wine, go to the Oregon, say Lincoln City, Tillamook, Seaside.
Thank you all so much for your responses. I actually was thinking outside of CA. However the Mendicino Coast looks interesting.
boom_boom- great ideas. I will look in to these.
Are there any suggestions of a place to fly to that's not so far.
Within an hour of San Francisco by plane -- Los Angeles, Reno. Within two to three hours - Palm Springs, San Diego, Las Vegas, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Phoenix, Albuquerque. .
