We are leaving next week to drive from Central Illinois to Clearwater FL. We usually stop in Athens AL to spend the night but this year I would like to push and drive a bit further. Can anyone who's familiar with driving this way and staying overnight in Alabama give me a suggestion for a clean and moderate priced motel and that'sclose to an exit with closeby restaurants. Thank you for any suggestions.
Need recommendation for clean & mod price motel Rt64 Alabama

Do you have a road map? Do yu know the names of the nearby cities where you might want to stop? Are you familiar with the names of some of the major motel chains? Google them and you'll get all kinds of answers.

As you cross over the state line, stop at the visitor center and pick up a little green book by the name of roomsaver. (some travel gas stations also carry it) It has coupons for walk-in hotels/motels and some very good prices and their locations are close to the hwy. You can go on line and check it out here: http://www.roomsaver.com/
Also, we've had good luck at LaQuinta Inns. Right now many of them are offering $49.00 rates.
