Need Portland, OR advice

Date: 01/02/2009, 11:59 am
I will be in Portland next week (my favorite travel city) and since it looks like it will be cold and rainy outdoors, I need suggestions for indoor places to take my 3 yr old granddaughter, such as museums, etc.
Also any new restaurant suggestions?

Just hope you don't get any snow like we got last night, lol! We only got about 2 inches, but after all we had that was enough

OMSI is a perfect place to take your GD. You can check their website to see what they have going on right now.

Are you asking about restaurant recs appropriate for your granddaughter? If so, hmmmm..... :-? Otherwise, have you been to Toro Bravo yet? Or Alberta Street Oyster Bar? How about Beast? I know you've been to Le Pigeon, or I'd recommend that.

My wife and I went to a place called Navarre for the first time last weekend. Nothing like those other places, but a nice, neighborhood, Portland funky sort of restaurant with very good food.

Thanks mms - I can never have enough fun at OMSI! I love that place. My daughter told me there is snow. I guess I will have to buy some long underwear, mittens, and wool socks!

beachbum - yes, I've been to Toro Bravo, Alberta Street Bar, and Le Pigeon thanks in years past to your great recommendations. I do plan to go to Toro Bravo again for sure because it's easy with a young kid in tow.
I haven't been to Navarre or Beast (love the name!) but am putting on my list.

Thanks so much.

There's a children's museum up next to the Zoo. You might consider the Forestry Center, too, which has some exhibits children can enjoy.

You can always watch the skaters at Lloyd Center, which is easy to get to on the Max light rail. The mall has a 50's style diner that your granddaughter might like. Hey, milkshakes served *with* the silver mixing cup!

I had to laugh when I read your post about the skaters! Coming from southern california - I hear skaters and I think of skateboarders. I googled it and of course, it's ice skaters! duh. That would be a lot of fun. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nanabee...What days will you be in Portland? My daughter just flew in today and will be there through the 8th. I'm sure she would love to steal your granddaughter for a while!

I arrive late afternoon of the 7th thru the 12th.
Is she staying at the
NE Portland B & B?
Tell her to call them right away before they get booked up!
I'll treat her to dinner if it works out. She sounds like a lovely young lady
